Alpha Academy – A foundation for your future.
The Alpha Academy originated from an idea to establish an institution that will empower individuals in mastering complex mathematical concepts which form the basis of any complex tertiary subject.
The main focus of the Alpha Academy is the teaching of mathematics to grade 8 through to grade 12 pupils and is based on the Curriculum and Policy Statement (CAPS) prescribed by the Department of Basic Education.
The vision of the Alpha Academy is to make a positive contribution towards the improvement of literacy in South-Africa, by enhancing the knowledge of pupils in the complex domain of mathematics.
Alpha Academy has a mission to equip its pupils with the necessary knowledge to be fluent in mathematics, by using a specific developed learning methodology to visualize and memorize these concepts and the application there-off.
It will not be possible to realize this mission without the following:
- To offer education at affordable prices;
- To continuously monitor the progress of pupils;
- To adapt the learning program to address those areas where more focus is required; and
- To restrict the number of pupils per session to ensure individual attention.
Mathematics is presented in both English and Afrikaans and all teaching material is presented in the associated language.
Founder and Owner:
Steve Jansen is the founder and owner of Alpha Academy and is formally qualified as an Engineering Technologist and Computer Scientist.
In the late 1980s his passion for mathematics was spawned by the aptitude he showed towards mastering complex mathematical subjects during his studies, for which he obtained in the high eighty to above ninety percent in final year subjects. He mastered the methodology to study by using visualization techniques, during his studies for a Masters in Business Leadership, which he obtained from the University of South Africa in 1993. Again his dissertation was based on mathematical control models for which he was rewarded with a distinction and a request to publish articles in the USA and UK.
This was followed by him being constantly involved in the development and implementation of business mathematical models for decision making in large organizations through-out his career. He was awarded the chairman’s award for the development of a decision making model for one of the organizations he worked for. Another organization is still using his mathematical models to perform forecasting of manpower for new multi-million engineering projects.
Steve has been living in Centurion for a few decades with his wife and two sons. His eldest son is a formally qualified Engineering Technologist and the youngest is a Computer Programmer. Not surprisingly this adds to an environment of continuous stimulation and debating of mathematical and scientific matters.
